Optik Amberg in Erlangen (DE) was given the opportunity to rent the adjacent building. The Besoldes Haus (popularly called ‘Der Berner’) where the Berner Fashion House was previously located and where the rent was recently paid by Flying Tiger became available. The WSB team was asked to take up this challenge; retail and the history of the property. Concerning the preservation of monuments, there was not much that required attention except for the facade (partly), 4 old stucco ceilings and the old gate of the former decline. We have used the structure of the building to turn the 600m² into a wonderful shopping-department store experience.

Entrance

The front part of the store features a lot of eyewear display; on the left side for correction and on the right side space for sunglasses. An important aspect of the assignment was to offer the customer sufficient privacy to be able to conduct the conversation in peace. In this part there are 8 places where advice can be given on chairs or benches.

A wonderful trigger

The courtyard is equipped with a beautiful monumental piece of furniture, which accentuates the height in the daylight dome. In this “duck’s nest” is a coffee pantry with waiting area and glasses are presented on the outside. A wonderful trigger that lures customers from the front area into the next room. The walls offer space for various presentations such as: Andy Wolff shop, issue of sold glasses, children’s glasses, waiting at the gate and the VIP room.

Measuring in the dark

In the back part of the shop are 3 refraction rooms and a lot of attention and space has been set aside for Prescan. It is clear that the technical side of the business can also have an exciting experience due to the use of materials and colours.

Beautiful materials enhance the architectural accents of ceilings and floors. Oak wood, leather details on tables with steel edge elements, gold accents and crocodile print on the walls. Oak veneer combined with Walnut in the VIP corner, Escher effects on the courtyard floor. The concrete ceiling of the courtyard is equipped with illuminated LED panels with cloth on which ceiling paintings have been applied. In combination with modern rugs and beautiful wall coverings from Arte and Elitis, this gives a great effect and shows that modern business management goes well with old glory.
