"Spiral Gara" - redefining Craftsmanship in Acetate Polishing
Our 2nd factory is the “finishing” division, while purchasing new machinery, such as CNC machines to refit the previous facility. In 2019, together with ICHIJIMA ENGINEERING, O’Gara conceived and created spiral Gara tumbling machines to enhance the surface finish of acetate frames.

In 2011, Thomas "Tommy" O’Gara started with a small factory, laying the foundation for his vision. Just a year later, in 2012, he introduced NATIVE SONS to the market, setting new standards along the way.
Later in 2016, TLCL created an agreement with Richard Tart of the TART family and established JULIUS TART OPTICAL, creating the original heritage designs from the family’s archives. The brand is owned by TLCL and a heritage royalty is paid to the family.
In the year 2018, THE LIGHT CO. launched SAUVAGE EYEWEAR, a brand based in Paris and Tokyo. Sara Mary took over direction of the brand in 2022.
In 2021, TLCL purchased the brand MAX PITTION from the PITTION family of Oyonnax, France. The French heritage brand was reverse-engineered from the archives and created in authentic colors and specs in THE LIGHT CO. factory. The brand debuted at the SILMO 2022 show.
Spiral Gara
Spiral Gara is an innovative way of tumbling. At a certain angle, it creates a spiral swirl and gives the acetate a softer finish, making the final polishing process easier for the craftsman.
For example, our MAX PITTION frames that are 7-8mm thick, featuring skydiving and deep TV cuts are polished gently with Spiral Gara, resulting in a product that retains the applied design without loss while achieving a thick, lustrous, and substantial feel.
