GUIDED TOURS AT opti

It goes without saying that opti, as the leading trade show for optics & design, always has the future of the industry in mind. It goes without saying that it also communicated this future to its visitors. For this reason, opti offered tours on two future topics during the three days of the trade show: through the Frame Design halls C1 and C2 with renowned eyewear trend researcher Selin Olmsted and tours for apprentices, trainees and students as part of the opti NEXT GENERATION programme

Guided Eyeware Trend tours with Selin Olmsted

Language: English

Selin Olmsted knows which trends will be in demand in 2026 and guided visitors to the exhibitors whose frames are right at the heart of fashion.

Versatility is in her blood

Selin Olmsted discovered her passion for art and design at a young age while growing up in Istanbul, Turkey. Her father, an established architect, introduced her to the rich textures of the city's modern and traditional architecture, while her mother, a leather goods executive, nurtured her interest in fashion, textures and sketching. This creative upbringing led her to New York, where she studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).

After graduating from FIT, Selin began her career as a menswear designer, working with leading fashion houses such as Givenchy, Alberta Ferretti, Zegna, Armani, Gant, Hugo and Boss. During her time with award-winning menswear designer Antonio Azzuolo, she had the opportunity to design eyewear for Warby Parker, which sparked her newfound passion for eyewear. The more she explored the subject, the more she fell in love with the shapes and materials.

About niches and unborn passion

As she delved deeper into the subject and came into contact with respected, experienced professionals, she recognised a niche and an unmet need in the eyewear industry in the US.

This realisation led Selin to start her own eyewear design studio in New York City. Over the past nine years, she has worked with high profile clients in the fashion, lifestyle, sports and smart eyewear industries.

She now lives in Brooklyn with her family, and her passion for her work remains as strong as it was when she started in 2015.
