GUIDED TOURS AT opti

It goes without saying that opti, as the leading trade show for optics and design, has always had its sights set on the future of the industry. It was also a matter of course that it communicated this future to its visitors. That is why, during the three days of the fair, opti offered tours on two future-oriented topics: a tour of the Frame Design halls C1 and C2 with the renowned eyewear trend researcher Selin Olmsted, and tours for apprentices, trainees and students as part of the opti NEXT GENERATION programme.

Guided Eyeware Trend tours with Selin Olmsted

Language: English

Selin Olmsted knows which trends will be in demand in 2026 and took visitors to the exhibitors whose frames are right at the heart of fashion.

Versatility is in her blood

Selin Olmsted discovered her passion for art and design at a young age while growing up in Istanbul, Turkiye. Her father, an established architect, exposed her to the rich textures of the city’s modern and traditional architecture, while her mother, a leather goods professional in a leadership role, nurtured her interest in fashion, textures, and sketching. This creative upbringing led her to New York, where she studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).

After graduating from FIT, Selin launched her career as a menswear designer, collaborating with top fashion houses like Givenchy, Alberta Ferretti, Zegna, Armani, Gant ve Hugo, Boss. During her time with award-winning menswear designer Antonio Azzuolo, she had the opportunity to design eyewear pieces for Warby Parker, sparking a newfound passion for eyewear. The more she explored the field, the more she fell in love with its shapes and materials.

On niches and unbroken passion

As she delved deeper into the field and connected with reputable, experienced professionals, she recognized a niche and unmet need in the eyewear industry in the USA.

This realization drove Selin to found her own eyewear design studio in New York City. Over the past nine years, she has collaborated with top-tier clients across fashion, lifestyle, sports, and smart eyewear.

She now lives in Brooklyn with her family, and her passion for her work remains as strong as when she first started in 2015.
